This Month’s Highlight

Poverty Relief

“… share your bread with the hungry,… bring the poor and homeless into your house,… clothe the naked when you see him,…” (Isaiah 58:7, CSB).

This is what God calls us to do as Christ followers, and this month, we are focusing on three amazing nonprofits committed to doing just that! These three Middle Tennessee organizations focus on serving our communities’ disadvantaged, homeless, and hungry populations.

Murfreesboro and Cannon County | The Journey Home

The Journey Home is a Christian ministry whose primary focus is to serve the homeless and disadvantaged of Rutherford County – providing practical resources and relationships that encourage faith, housing and economic stability, wholeness, and reintegration into community life.

Their ultimate goal is to help rehouse the disadvantaged and provide basic needs. The Journey Home needs generous individuals willing to give their time, talent, and treasure to heal our underprivileged residents.

Shelbyville | Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen

Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen is a nonprofit organization focused on reaching out to the homeless community in Shelbyville. What started as a trial run in 2016, feeding just 12 people grew quickly to serving over one hundred people each week.

Each Tuesday, they open their doors at 4:00 pm and serve meals until 5:30. For many, this may provide the only hot meal they get all week and the only chance they have to wash up and use a restroom. This soup kitchen has created a sense of community that many see as their congregation and their home.

Tullahoma | Shepherd’s House

Shepherd’s House is a nonprofit in Tullahoma that aims to change the lives of homeless women and children so that they can take care of themselves and their families without needing further assistance. Through weekly studies, parenting classes, chores, and employment requirements, they promote good work ethic, responsibility, and accountability.

At Shepherd’s House, they provide shelter and food for the women and children awaiting housing, assistance with finding a job, housing applications, and GED help. They also provide financial assistance for transportation costs, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, and social security cards for their residents. They desire to create an environment of hope for those in need.

Nonprofits We Support

Thirty percent of our annual budget is given to nonprofits and to fund projects that directly benefit our community. A genuine commitment to Christ is ultimately a commitment to others. Living with this mindset will make a difference in the choices we make, the people we invest in, the way we spend our time, and how we view others.
